CSP:Emails Maryly Snow 19 Jul 2018 08:30 PDT

To everyone complaining about the volume of emails:

1. Joanna’s resignation over the perceived email issue prompted me to look at who dropped off, when they dropped off, and when they joined CSP as this is as good an indication of their age that we have. You should know that printmaking is NOT a passive art-making process! It is more physically challenging than drawing or painting. As your CSP Historian working on the centennial book and later as your Treasurer, I met many CSP artist members who don’t read email, who have their presses covered with a sheet, and/or who simply quit making prints. Age is a reality.

2. When we used Yahoo Groups, you could not self-remove. You had to ask a moderator to remove your contact information. Simplelists permits people to self-remove, AND it notifies some of us when this happens.

3. It is simply NOT true that 2 or 3 people are dropping of each week! Here are the notifications for member (not board) unsubscriptions by per month:

July. 1 person: Daniel Lienau Honorary member. His system thought it was SPAM.
June. 2 people: 1 Honorary member. 1 artist member joined 1975, and hasn’t paid her dues for 3 years!
May. 2 artist members. No further information, except one of them moved.
March. 9 people: 8 artist members, one mistaken member. This is when we began using Simplelists. Prior to this, members could NOT remove themselves. The 9 include 1 honorary member, one non-artist member, and 3 who joined in the 1970s and 1980s! There are 2 confirmed nonagenarians, maybe 3! either 7 or 8 people were inactive due to age.

I am more concerned about Bob Rocco and Barbara Foster unsubscribing from the board list.

We have a lot of new energy on the board with many new ideas. Do we have the human resources/volunteers to undertake all the new ideas? Maybe. But everyone please proceed with careful. Issues that are raised can have unforeseen repercussions. Witness Joanna’s resignation…

The mailchimp newsletter is a terrific idea, and I hope it continues, but please don't link it to email: mailchimp is an additional avenue of communication.
