A few months ago I was visiting one of my favorite thrift/recycling stores - East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse in Oakland, when I discovered this corroded zinc plate (7.25"x6"). I took it back to my studio, cleaned it up and printed it. When I first discovered the plate I appreciated the quality of the drawing and realized that this was done with a very experienced hand. I had the opportunity of sharing my discovery with Daniel Lienau at the Print Fair in Berkeley and he suggested that it looked like something Roi Partridge might have done. He showed me some of Partridge's work he had on hand (2nd photo enclosed) and compared the line work, specifically how he treats the shading on rocks (mid and foreground). Now I realize that it is not signed in the plate (typical for him), and it is a zinc plate; I don't know if he used zinc or copper (exclusively). Was this plate an unfinished state, therefore not signed yet or... Intriguing, no? Any opinions? No, I am not planing to print up a large edition and pass it off as a long lost print, though I use it for printing demos in my studio.
