Dear Members,
Some of you may have read about the passing of Robilee Frederick in today’s Chronicle. It was a comprehensive obituary highlighting a long life of her art and contribution to the artistic community. I had the pleasure of knowing her during the heyday of the Fort Mason Printmakers from the late 70’s through the 80’s. She shared a large studio in the ICB building in Sausalito with Phyllis Taplitz, Eleanore Bender, and, of course, Eleanor Rappe. Those were heady times for this artist, hanging with these formidable women.
The obituary did not mention her work as a printmaker, so I include one of her etchings: “Japanese Waters I”. This etching was part of the Portfolio “Book of Hours” we produced in 1978. Now this image of a beautiful sunset seems so poignant.
